The Faithfulness of Letting Go

Overview

We live in an accelerated age, one that tells us everything can and should be optimized: our schedules, our habits, our relationships, even our children. It is a way of living that promises improvement at every turn, but it comes with a cost. When we approach life as something to be managed and made better, we can lose our capacity for meaningful connection. We can lose our sense of mystery.

A Different Way to Live

Join us for an evening with Andy and Kara Root as we explore our relationship to control: how it shapes the way we move through the world, and what it might look like to live faithfully within it. Drawing on their book A Pilgrimage into Letting Go, Andy and Kara invite us into a conversation about what we gain when we stop trying to optimize everything, and start making room for wonder.

This is not a conversation only for parents, though parents will find plenty here that speaks directly to the work of raising kids in a culture obsessed with optimization. It is for grandparents, for anyone who has ever wrestled with the tension between control and wonder, between managing life and actually living it.

A Question Worth Sitting With

How do we recognize the power and sovereignty of God in a world that keeps asking us to optimize everything, including ourselves? What does it look like to accompany the people we love, our children, our grandchildren, our friends, as partners in the mystery of life rather than as problems to be solved?
