Finding Joy Again | Eastertide Sermon Series

This Eastertide, SMCC is Finding Joy.

Do you have enough joy in your life? Most of us can remember a time when we felt unadulterated joy, but some seasons in life shape up to be long stretches of something different--grief after a loved one passes, worry over health or finances, fear about a world spinning outside of our control. The Easter story is a story of unadulterated joy...but it didn't start that way. It was from Jesus death and the grief that followed that humanity was led to a new destination of joy not-yet-known. Which also makes Easter a story about Finding Joy Again. It is a story about humanity being brought to a new destination of joy, one that isn't recognizable from the past. Just as the resurrected Jesus looked unfamiliar to the disciples so does new joy--something about it is familiar, but it's not the same as what we've known before... - Rev. Jessica Vaughan Lower
